SPRINGFIELD — Look for the traveling gallery housed in a retrofitted 1969 Airstream parked across from Gallery at the VAULT (68 Main St., in Springfield) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. Step inside this vintage Airstream to see the dynamic exhibit of artists featured in the series, "The Artists of Frog Hollow." Utilizing the Vermont Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' Archistream (a traveling mobile education facility crafted from a 1969 Airstream) as a traveling gallery, Frog Hollow, Vermont’s first State Craft Center, is hosting this mobile Artsteam exhibit currently touring the state. The Artists of Frog Hollow series was created over the past three years and consists of four-to-10-minute profiles of individual artists providing an intimate connection to the people behind the craft. Samples of each artists work will be on display. The video profiles will be playing on loops via different Archistream installed media devices. Gallery at the VAULT is currently featuring an exhibit by one of the Artstream artists, Susan Raber Bray. Susan’s ceramic sculptures, many of birds, are made with white clay bodies, carved and burnished, then fired to 1800 degrees. Next the pieces are pit fired in sawdust and straw that has been soaked in salt. This firing can take anywhere from four to 24 hours, depending on weather conditions. Participating artists of Frog Hollow are David Hurwitz, woodworker; Carol MacDonald, printmaker; Susan Raber Bray, ceramic; Aaron Stein, metal; Steven Bronstein, blacksmith; Mark Elliot Schwabe, steampunk jewelry; Mark Dabelstein, woodworker; Victoria Blewer, photographer; Wendy James, digital collage; Eric Nelson, glass; and Norton Latourelle, woodcarver.
