Published September 12, 2015 in the Rutland Herald Wasps pound Springfield, win 40-0 By POODY WALSH Correspondent SPRINGFIELD — Woodstock, which opened the season pounding the ball for two wins, spread the offense Friday night as quarterback Luc Isa connected with Jackson Wood on two long first half touchdown passes as the Wasps had their way with Springfield Friday night at Brown field, 40-0. Woodstock had thrown just six passes in its first two games, but coach Ramsey Worrell figured if the season was going to continue to be successful he would have to open things up. “We didn’t want to be a one-dimensional team,” said Worrell. Woodstock also got two touchdown gallops for scores from Ezra Astbury in the first half and in the second half went on a 99-yard, 18-play drive that started in the third quarter and ended with 4:09 to go in the game, freshman Caden white eventually taking it with a scamper from the 16. Woodstock junior Bill Wood scored his seventh touchdown of the season with a 27-yard run in the first quarter that got the Wasps off and running. Woodstock, a team with just three seniors, has now outscored its foes 98-28 in winning its first three outings. Despite the loss Springfield coach Rich Saypack is not losing heart. His club played well in spanking MSJ last week, 45-27, and he knows that new, young players make mistakes. “Sometimes we forget our assignments ,” as he went over the two pass plays that went to open receivers. “You know I’ve been on teams that were 11-0 and 0-9 and sometimes there is just a fine line between the two,” said Saypack. “I was happy we played with heart right until the final whistle.” Woodstock’s first possession was a 79-yard, eight play, all running, drive with Bill Wood going the final 27 yards. Then it was Isa to Jackson Wood from 41 yards. Astbury had runs of 3and 40 yards and the Wasps were ahead 34-0 at the half.
