Springfield wrestler JV state champ

Springfield High School sophomore Matt LaChapelle won the Junior Varsity Wrestling Championship in Barre on Saturday.

Energy crackled around the gym as junior high and high school students from around the state warmed up with each other or listened to music to get "in the zone" while waiting to hear their name be called.

A full day of hard work by each of the Springfield wrestlers resulted in many arms raised in victory, and a sense of a job well done and challenges met.

Sophomore Matt LaChapelle topped the day by beating all three of his opponents for the title of State Champion. JJ LeCouffe, also a sophomore, wrestled his way to 2nd place, while 8th grade Brandon Bennett sported a 3rd place medal. Junior Moira Stettner tucked two wins under her belt to place 5th, and junior high wrestlers Skyler Congdon and Raymond Lacasse each took home a win and a 5th place ribbon.

Sophomores Gillian Guy and Matt Prosser each continued a season-long battle against tough opponents, showing grit and determination along with strength and prowess on the mats.

Matt LaChapelle and Mo Stettner head to the Varsity State Championship at Mill River HS on Feb. 27th.

Congratulations to all the Springfield wrestlers, and thank you to our amazing coaches, Don Beebe and Floyd Buck Jr!
