Former Bryants building update

People are starting to notice some activity at the former Bryant Grinder building, which is owned by Springfield Regional Development Corporation.

Asbestos Abatement work is scheduled to begin at the former Bryant Grinder site on Monday, April 11th. The abatement work is being funded through a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Cleanup Grant awarded to the Springfield Regional Development Corporation. The abatement design documents are available to review at SRDC’s office, 14 Clinton Street, Suite 7, Springfield, VT. Members of the community are encouraged to submit public comments to Bob Flint by writing to the above address, e-mailing bobf@springfielddevelopment.org, or attending a public hearing being held on April 11th at 5:00pm at the Springfield Town Hall.

When I worked at Bryant I remember more than one query being made about asbestos building materials, including one by me. I was told by management that there was no asbestos.

    1. I also work there Phil. Management is always right. Crossman was certainly right lining his pockets with money that should have gone else where.

  3. Rather lame PR spiel from SRDC spending tax dollars to no effect. I'd be a lot more impressed if SRDC could lure a high tech business to our community that offered great paying jobs. How about it Bob, what's the obstacle? Heck, even Scumlin said how "optimistic" he was at a recent, Rotary meeting.

Your counterparts in Walpole, Charlestown, Claremont, and W. Leb are doing great things. For a perspective, check out traffic on lower Clinton Street at 6:00 AM. Hundreds of cars on their way to work elsewhere, and hardly a soul going the other way. Humm, maybe there's something other than asbestos to blame for industry abandoning Vermont?
