Opinion: Board seeks to buy building

The Springfield School Board desires to purchase the blue building at 47 Union St., using the proceeds from the sale of East School. The board is doing this with the safety of students, staff and neighborhood in mind.

    waste of taxpayers money,let the town and landlord deal with the issue's,they made all the regs so this doesn't happen,start enforcing them,what is the final cost to buy,remove hazardous materials and tear down ?

    I thought we already voted NOT to buy this building. How can they just go ahead and buy it without a vote from the town??

      They didn't, the purchase of the building is on the November 8th, 2016, election ballot. The price is approximately 1/2 of the previous price, and this time everyone is upfront that they are proposing to buy the building for security and safety reasons.

    That house has been there long before the school was built. I attended Union Street for six years. The "house" is not the liability. If you don't directly address the real issue, will be asking tax payers to buy and remove half the homes in the neighborhood!

    Smart money would buy these slums for little or nothing, and rent them out to victims of white privilege. When complaints arise, offer to sell out at a profit.

    Let's face it. Springfield is a dying town as this blight like a cancer has spread unchecked. No one with a choice wants to live here anymore.
