2016-11-14 / Local EdgarMay Thanksgiving Day 5k to be held Nov. 24 SPRINGFIELD — The Edgar May Health and Recreation Center will host its 4th annual Thanksgiving Day 5k Road Race and Walk on Thursday, Nov. 24. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 9. Please call (802) 885-2568 to register, or visit www.myreccenter.org Thanksgiving morning is a great time to get out with friends and family for walk or run. This year there will be prizes for the family with the largest number of participants, and for both the most experienced and youngest walker or runner. The event is timed by Springfield High School’s Cross Country program, who benefits from the races proceeds. Participants are also encouraged to bring food donations for the Springfield Family Center. The 5K Fun Run and Walk will begin and end at Springfield Hospital. The route begins at the bottom of Ridgewood Road and turns onto Park Street, following Park Street to Union Street and Union Street to South Street. Participants turn around at Springfield High School and head back to Springfield Hospital. The course is flat — perfect for a fast 5K! EdgarMay Executive Director Christian Craig stated: “This event is a great way to start what is typically known as the largest calorie consumption day of the year. Come out and burn off some calories and you won’t feel as guilty about that second piece of pie.” The race is sponsored by Springfield Medical Care Systems, Biben’s Ace Hardware, Claremont Savings Bank and the Springfield Rotary Club. Sponsorship opportunities can be found at www.myreccenter.org The race is also seeking volunteers. So, if you are interested in having some fun Thanksgiving morning by supporting a great event, contact Christian Craig.
