Volunteers needed to assist Senior Solutions with energy efficiency project

Senior Solutions and Efficiency Vermont are looking for volunteers to help older adults, people with disabilities and low-income residents of Windsor and Windham counties make their homes more energy efficient.

  1. "The volunteers visit the homes of eligible residents and determine whether simple energy-efficiency items such as Energy Star LED light bulbs, low-flow shower heads and water pipe insulation would help the residents save money.

If so, the volunteer would then install the products and also determine whether a more in-depth energy-efficiency retrofit by a contractor would be helpful."

Wanna bet this costs the tax payers far more than it is worth to the disabled and seniors that they are supposedly helping? Sounds like just another scam that the tax payers pay for while someone else makes a killing.

  2. No one is "making a killing." Taxpayers don't support this; Efficiency Vermont is funded through a small surcharge on energy bills. The only cost is for the energy efficient items like light bulbs or showerheads, those installing the items are doing it for free.

This low-cost program will improve energy efficiency across the state and help seniors save money. I'm sorry if you see that as a negative.

    Who is paying the surcharge(tax)?
"also determine whether a more in-depth energy-efficiency retrofit by a contractor would be helpful"

Who are you trying to kid? How many disabled and seniors will get a recommendation for "a more in-depth energy-efficiency retrofit" Bet it is quite a few. Who will be footing those bills? Certainly not the contractors. I think this is just a scam to gin up business for a few while taking advantage of the disabled and senior citizens. I think their caretakers, friends or the seniors themselves can "install" those
    LED light bulbs.

What's next? Free or low cost duct cleaning scams?
