All are welcome to the 5th Annual Fastest Kid in Town race to find out. The kids-only, 100- and 200-yard races will take place at noon during the 35th Annual Vermont Apple Festival and Craft Fair. The races will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Riverside Park. The Fastest Kid in Town Race began five years ago as a joint effort between Springfield Medical Care Systems and the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center to raise awareness on the importance of fitness and activity for young children. The race has become a popular annual event that is free and open to children ages 5-12. The goal for this year is to see 100 children competing for the title of Fastest Kid in Town. Participants will compete in four age categories (ages 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12). Medals for the male and female winners of each category will be awarded. All pre-registered participants will receive a race logo T-shirt for their efforts. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required, by contacting the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center. The kids-only 100 and 200-yard races will take place at 12 p.m. during the 35th Annual Vermont Apple Festival and Craft Fair at Riverside Park in Springfield. The Fastest Kid in Town Race began five years ago as a joint effort between Springfield Medical Care Systems and the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center to raise awareness on the importance of fitness and activity for young children.
