Streaking Cosmos win third straight, face Windsor next Rutland Herald | October 31, 2017 STAFF REPORTS FAIRFAX — Springfield opened the season with a loss at Windsor. The Cosmos get a second chance next week with a full head of steam. Matt LaChapelle ran for two scores in the fourth period to seal the victory and Springfield won its first playoff game since 2009, beating BFA-Fairfax 18-3 in a Division III quarterfinal on Saturday. LaChapelle scored from 5 and 2 yards and No. 5 Springfield (3-5) won its third straight game, avenging an early-season loss to No. 4 (2-6) BFA. “The kids have grown up,” said coach Rich Saypack, pointing to an important play in the fourth period. “They called a play for Matt. They said, ‘we’ll score’ and we did.” Springfield also scored on a 35-yard pass play from Kyle Monier to Ryan McSally for an early 6-0 lead. The Cosmos also got big defensive games from J.J. LeCouffe, Calvin Roby and Bradley Bennett. Defending champion Windsor beat Springfield in Windsor 53-22 in Week 1 and have won 18 straight games but Saypack doesn’t think the Cosmos need be intimidated. “ Windsor and us have something going on,” he said. “We made a lot of mistakes in that game, but if we can clear those up, who knows?”

The Cosmos play at 1PM on Saturday, not Friday night. By the way, I hope all the "fans" who were jumping down the throat of Springfield coach Rich Saypack have paid attention to the Cosmos' turnaround.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the final score this Saturday, I'd say Springfield is in very good hands with Saypack at the helm.
Springfield will not find a smarter coach.
ReplyDeleteI think the boys have come together as a team and played well these past few weeks and can go out this year and come back next year with their heads held HIGH!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest the games were always closer than the score, a fumble here or bad defense there and a few games would have been different.
