Shelter increases assistance after Springfield flooding 16 hrs ago SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Precision Valley Disaster Recovery Committee is operating a shelter with the support of the Red Cross, the Springfield Housing Authority, and the Springfield Warming Shelter for some of the people affected by the evacuation of all 74 apartments in the Whitcomb building, following flooding in the Mineral Street area on Friday, July 27. The shelter is located in the Huber Building and began house eight people on Friday night. The number of those assisted grew to 15 people by Saturday night, according to a press release from the shelter. If anyone needs help in recovering from the flooding, they can call the toll-free disaster hotline at (888) 263-2815, or email the Recovery Committee at pvdrcvt@gmail.com. The Precision Valley Disaster Recover Committee was formed in response to Hurricane Irene and has been in standby mode since working with the people in the Springfield and Windsor County areas who were affected by the storm. PVDRC is a Community Organization Assisting in Disasters (COAD), which provides a focal point for providing assistance from local community organizations like the Red Cross and Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA), as well as various disaster response teams from outside the community.
