Shelter increases assistance after Springfield flooding
The Precision Valley Disaster Recovery Committee is operating a shelter with the support of the Red Cross, the Springfield Housing Authority, and the Springfield Warming Shelter for some of the people affected by the evacuation of all 74 apartments in the Whitcomb building, following flooding in the Mineral Street area on Friday, July 27.

Floodwater from intense rain on Friday knocked out power to an apartment building forcing more than 70 people to evacuate. Officials say most of them were elderly or disabled.

Springfield sees flash floods

Heavy storms wreaked havoc on Friday in Springfield, creating washouts, disrupting traffic, trapping vehicles and flooding the first floor of a housing complex with over 4 feet of water, according to a news release from the Springfield Fire Department.

Flooding woes
Following heavy rains that drenched the region Wednesday night into Thursday, many in Springfield and throughout the area faced flooded yards, basements and roads.
Heavy rainfall creates flooding problems
Following an unusual February rainstorm which caused evacuations in several Vermont communities, flood warnings issued Thursday are expected to extend into today.

Whitcomb building flooded
Torrents of muddy storm water pouring down from the hills above Mineral Street flooded the senior housing Whitcomb building this morning prompting the evacuation of first floor residents. Authorities say it will be 2 months before they can be allowed to move back in.

Repairs complete, route 106 now open in its entirety
The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) today made holiday travel a little easier for some as it reopened Route 106 through Weathersfield, which had been closed since Tropical Storm Irene struck nearly three months ago.
