Springfield homeowner furious over sewage blockage incident

The resident whose Chester Road home suffered an incursion of sewage last week is accusing the town of not taking sufficient action against a nearby health center he believes is the ultimate cause of the blockage.

Sewer blockage floods Springfield house, prompts town action

A backed-up sewer line caused a house to be flooded last weekend, resulting in action Wednesday by the select board. The backup that caused the flood was allegedly the result of a sewer violation, according to town officials.

Seniors are still displaced after last Friday’s flooding

The force of flood waters caused bending of the outside steel doors to the electrical room.
Seventy-eight residents of a senior housing complex in Springfield remain displaced one week after flooding forced the evacuation of the Louis Whitcomb Building on Mineral Street. While most are staying with relatives or friends, 12 people are at the emergency shelter in the Edwin Huber Building on Main Street.

The Precision Valley Disaster Recovery Committee is operating a shelter with the support of the Red Cross, the Springfield Housing Authority, and the Springfield Warming Shelter for some of the people affected by the evacuation of all 74 apartments in the Whitcomb building, following flooding in the Mineral Street area on Friday, July 27.

Heavy storms wreaked havoc on Friday in Springfield, creating washouts, disrupting traffic, trapping vehicles and flooding the first floor of a housing complex with over 4 feet of water, according to a news release from the Springfield Fire Department.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) today made holiday travel a little easier for some as it reopened Route 106 through Weathersfield, which had been closed since Tropical Storm Irene struck nearly three months ago.
