Jacks explode past Springfield
STAFF REPORTS
In Springfield, Windsor got off to a slow start in Friday night’s Marble Valley League boys basketball game in Dressel Gym, but once the Yellow Jackets got it in gear, they rolled to a 52-37 victory.
“We started slow. They had a lot of emotion going there with Senior Night,” Windsor coach Harry Ladue said.
Fueled by that emotion, the Cosmos got off to a 10-5 lead.
The Jacks overcame that and went to halftime clinging to a 16-15 lead.
The Jacks put it all together in the third quarter when they outscored the Cosmos 21-4.
“We really settled in and started playing good defense,” Ladue said.
The Jacks were led by Tanner Dana with 13 points, Nathaniel Furman with 11 and Nate Marden with 10.
Furman and Jacob Page also did a good job on the boards for the 8-12 Jacks.
Ethan McAllister led the Cosmos with nine points.
Ladue figures his first-round opponent in the D-II playoffs will be MSJ, Mill River or Harwood.
Green Mountain 48, Black River 41
In Chester, the Chieftains won the sixth game required by their school to go to the Division III tournament.
Led by Jake Cavacas with 14 points, Ryan McNulty with 11 and freshman Mike Cavacas with nine, GM finished at 6-14 against a game, yet winless, Presidents quintet.
“They ran us out off the floor at times,” said GM coach Stretch Gillam.
Gillam also credited Mike Cavacas for a nice performance off the bench.
