Kathan honored by hoops conference

Springfield High School graduate Tyler Kathan was selected to the Little East 25th Anniversary Men’s Basketball Team announced Thursday by the conference office. The team was put together to help celebrate the silver anniversary of the conference sponsoring the sport.
The 25-student-athlete and one-coach squad was voted upon by athletic administrators and current coaches. The highly-decorated team is highlighted by 19 player of the year award winners, including eight multiple honorees, and seven rookie of the year award recipients.
Kathan had an outstanding career at Keene State College from 2005 through 2009. He is now playing professionally in Germany.
Kathan has the distinction of earning both LEC rookie of the year (2006) and player of the year (2009) honors. He was a three-time All-LEC first team pick.
Each of the eight Little East institutions was represented on the Silver Anniversary team. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth placed the highest amount of student-athletes on the Silver Anniversary team with seven, while Keene State College, Rhode Island College, University of Southern Maine, and Western Connecticut State University each had three honorees. The University of Massachusetts Boston and Plymouth State University was represented with a pair of selections, while Eastern Connecticut State University completed the 25-member roster with one pick.
