MANCHESTER -- There is only so much one team can take.
After dominating Friday's game against Springfield, the Burr and Burton Academy field hockey team fell to the visiting Cosmos, 2-1, in a heartbreaking overtime contest.
The Bulldogs had control of the extra session when chaos in front of the BBA net resulted in a game-winning goal for Springfield -- the third 2-1 loss the Bulldogs (0-4-1) have had this season.
And the overtime winner happened in controversial fashion, as Springfield's Morgan Jognson took a shot from just inside the shooting circle. The shot went into the air and dropped behind Bulldog goalkeeper Celina Chapin. A goal was signaled, but Burr and Burton players contested that the ball was shot too high into the crowd.
"It looked a little high, we were just a little upset," said captain Michelle Kelley. "We are all disappointed."
Despite the protests, the Cosmos walked off with the win.
Springfield took an early lead just four minutes into the game. After a Cosmos penalty corner, there was another scramble in front of Chapin. Springfield's Jill Rushton got her stick on the ball and poked it into the back of the goal.
After the early goal, Burr and Burton started dominating possession and creating offensive chances. BBA's Lily Ross hit the outside of the cage and the last minute saw a flurry of rushes by the Bulldogs offensive line.
"We do have those speedy girls that can carry

it all the way up the field," said Kelley.
BBA picked up where they left off in the second half, getting several shots on Springfield goalkeeper Erin Chelbak. But the sophomore was strong in goal throughout the game, allowing only one goal on 16 shots.
"[Chelbak] did a great job," said Kelley. "She saved so many."
The tying goal came for the Bulldogs off yet another offensive rush with Ross getting her stick on the ball and knocking it in.
"We really kept the energy up," said Kelley. "I think this was the first game we played cohesively. It was the best game we played so far."
Burr and Burton earned three penalty corners and put multiple shots on net but could not capitalize on their chances.
"Our main problem is that we criss-cross in front of the goal instead of taking shots right away," said Kelley of the team's offensive chances. "We try and practice and encourage getting shots off early."
