Pats eke it out
In Springfield, it was one of the strangest finishes ever that ended on a goal by Mount Anthony’s Marcus LaFlamme as he converted a cross from Tim Brown with 50 seconds left in the overtime as the Patriots topped Springfield, 1-0 in MVL boys soccer on Friday.
It had appeared that the Cosmos had won the game in overtime when Tom Kendall made a penalty kick.
But the PK was voided when the official called Kendall for juking right and left on his approach to the ball instead of coming to it straight on.
“That’s his normal run. I have never seen that called before,” Springfield coach Paul Kendall said.
“It was a great match with both teams playing hard.”
