A new Windsor County court office is opening this Tuesday in Springfield.
The Assistant Judges of Windsor County and the Vermont Judiciary, with the support and collaboration of the Town of Springfield, have taken action to improve access to justice and court services in the southern part of Windsor County. Their new initiative will also lower costs for county taxpayers and lower travel expenses for Windsor residents who conduct business with the courts.
A new court facility, to be known as the Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Unit, Springfield Office, will open its doors on Tuesday, December 13th to serve residents of Windsor County, replacing the North Springfield Probate Courthouse, which closed on December 6. The new court office is more conveniently located to be in close proximity to the majority of southern Windsor County residents. The Springfield office, which will initially be open one day per week, will not just be a Probate office. Citizens may come to the new court office to file petitions and other documents in Family, Civil or Probate matters being heard in the Windsor unit, as well as to pay certain criminal and Judicial Bureau fines.
An open house will be held on Tuesday, December 13, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Windsor County residents are welcome to visit the court at that time and learn more about the court services that will be available in the new facility. The address is 96 Main Street, Springfield, VT 05156. (This is the town hall building, formerly the Springfield Police Department.) The phone number for the new office will be 802-885-5433 and the FAX number will be 885-5436.
Initially the Springfield office will be open one day a week, Tuesdays, beginning on December 13th. Office hours will be from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. The current Probate phone number, 802-886-2284 was discontinued December 7th. The number to call now to obtain assistance is 802-885-5433. The court system is working to make this move as streamlined as possible and thanks everyone in advance for being patient during this time of transition.
