Recent activity of the Springfield Police Department.
At 11 pm on January 18, a local resident called to report that her vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening. The vehicle was subsequently entered into the National Database as stolen and Claremont authorities were notified that the victim believed her vehicle to have been taken to their area. Claremont Police located the vehicle and arrested Dorian Thompson, age 23, formerly of the Springfield area, who was in possession of the vehicle. Thompson will likely be charged in NH for being in possession of the stolen vehicle and Officer Fitzgibbons of the Springfield PD will seek additional charges thru the VT court system for the crimes initially committed here.
At 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, dispatch received a call of motion being detected within the Town Library. Officers who were in the immediate area responded and quickly, one 16 year old local youth was arrested as he was attempting to flee the area. "Ozzy", the PD K-9, who was on duty at the time, conducted a search of the building and confirmed no one else was to be found. The youth is facing felony charges of Burglary. It is believed that all property belonging to the Library was recovered however unknown if any of it may have been damaged during the incident.
Adam Bates, age 36, was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and Violation of Conditions of Release following a report of a dispute at his Springfield residence January 15th. Bates was taken into custody and subsequently lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash or surety bail. He will be arraigned at a later date in Windsor Superior Court Criminal Division.
