Women’s Club Elects Officers

SPRINGFIELD, VT -The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Vermont met at the Hartness House Inn on April 27 and the Holiday Inn Express in Springfield, Vermont on April 28.
The following officers were elected for 2012-2014: President Margaret Tucker of Okemo Valley GFWC; Vice President Fran Derlinga of Okemo Valley GFWC; Secretary Linda Colby of St Johnsbury GFWC; Southwest District Director Sue Monaco of Poultney GFWC; North District Director Joan Isham of St Johnsbury GFWC; Southeast District Director Nancy Hobart of South Royalton GFWC and Treasurer Joyce Lindamood of Springfield Area GFWC.
Guest of Honor and speaker at the annual meeting was Katherine White of Winterport, Maine, President of the New England Region of GFWC.
Five Vermont Women were recipients of the Barbara Jean Barker Scholarship. The scholarships are for Vermont women who must seek training or education to go back into the working world because of the loss of a spouse through divorce, death or disability. The scholarship is named in memory of Barbara Jean Barker who was State President 1992-1994 and passed away during her term of office. The scholarship was her idea. Several thousand dollars has been awarded in the past seventeen years. Each scholarship ranges from $500 to $1500.
General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an International Organization dedicated to the betterment of our respective communities. The signature program is Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention. For more information contact www.gfwc.org.
