Photos: Lindbergh landing anniversary event

Reeve Lindbergh and "Charles Lindbergh" arrive back from the runway at Hartness State Airport after taking a glider ride over North Springfield following the conclusion of a ceremony today marking the 85th anniversary of the famed aviator's 1927 visit to Springfield.

"Lucky Lindy" waves to a crowd of 150 greeters, a far cry from the 30,000 that turned out for the original landing 85 years ago.
Fake Colonel Lindbergh meets fake Governor Hartness
Town Manager Bob Forguites gives Reeve Lindbergh a copy of  the Town Proclamation honoring her father.
Assisted by her daughter, this was 99 year old Helen Childs first ever experience with public speaking. She remembers attending the 1927 Lindbergh visit as a 14 year old, impressed as much by his good looks as his history making transatlantic flight.
Five others who were at the Lindbergh landing 85 years ago also addressed the crowd.
After the laying of a wreath on an airport monument, Selectman (and airplane pilot) Peter Macillivray shakes hands with Lindbergh impersonator Walter Striedieck. To the right of them is real Lindbergh daughter Reeve Lindbergh Tripp and local actor Don Gray portraying James Hartness.
Rep. Alice Emmons and the Town Manager enjoy a bit of conversation with Reeve Lindbergh outside the airport's main building.  An anniversary cake and punch were served inside where photos and motion picture film of Lindbergh's 1927 visit were shown.

"Lucky Lindy"
Hit song from 1927

Charles Lindbergh disliked this song. He felt "luck" had nothing to do with his solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927. Instead, he reasoned his successful, long distance, record breaking flight was due to careful planning, a good airplane and a reliable engine. That said, "Lucky Lindy" is still a great sounding old tune!

Isn't it Alice Emmons and the Town Manager that are most often acused of not doing their Jobs they way they were intended to be done ?

I am always hearing about these two doing nothing and or not enough.

If it takes focus and concentration to handle the larger Jobs around here, perhaps we should be some non socialist scholarly young people to take their places.

To bad Reeve didn't have enough room for 2 more passengers.

  3. Yeah, we don't want no socialist scholarly young people taking anyone's place. How about that conservative young man who led that bunch of conservatives to protest that shooting? We need more pro-active conservatives is what I say, they do a swell job of moving the Town forward. None of this socialistic progressive scum for me!
