What waiting for death has taught me

I've been here in soft, green New England learning patience and waiting for death.

My mom lived with cancer for five years. She spent time with her loving husband, children, and grandchildren living her life as fully as each day would allow. We all knew what was coming and during the last two weeks we all said our goodbyes and waited. When my mom finally passed our grief was overwhelming, but so was our relief that her pain had ended.
Leslie came to use that first week. She cooked every meal, read to my mother's grandchildren, hugged us and offered us hope when our sadness was great. It was our honor to count Leslie as our friend and my sisters and I have prayed for her often.
I know she would have loved to have lived to be with her loving husband, children, and grandchildren, as much as they would have loved to have her live.
In their saddest times their memories of her smile, laughter, and love are going to keep them going. I can be sure of this because it is what Leslie taught my family and said about my mom.

With many loving and happy memories,
    Nancy Follett Wiese
