SPRINGFIELD, VT - Springfield Hospital was one of six recipients of the 2013 Vermont Centennial Nonprofit Awards. This program of the Vermont Secretary of State’s office honors nonprofit organizations that have operated continuously in the state for 100 years or more.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, “We believe that it is important to recognize Vermont’s oldest nonprofits for their many contributions to the State of Vermont. It takes a tremendous amount of dedication and support to keep a nonprofit active for 100 years or more. We hope that this program will deepen our understanding of how Vermont’s nonprofits have enhanced our community life during the last hundred years.”
Secretary of State, Jim Condos, read the following when presenting Springfield Hospital with its centennial award:
“For all of its 100 years, Springfield Hospital has stood high on a Vermont hillside. Throughout its history, the hospital’s priority has always been to offer access to quality health care.
A critical access hospital located in Springfield, Vermont, it provides 24-hour emergency care, general surgery and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services including The Windham Center for mental health, Adult Day Program, Breast Care Center, Childbirth Center, Oncology Clinic, and physical therapy and rehabilitation services.
Springfield Hospital is proud of its accomplishments in the area of quality of care, reflected in national measurements that rank hospital performance. The most recent scores place Springfield Hospital among the top 10% of all hospitals nationally.
A participant in the Vermont Blueprint for Health, Springfield Hospital, as part of Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS) and its network of federally-qualified community health centers, implements the Blueprint’s “medical home” model of service delivery. The result is high-quality, comprehensive and affordable health care available to all, with financial assistance offered based on a sliding fee basis.”
Springfield Hospital was incorporated in August 1913 and served its first patient in March 2014. More about Springfield Hospital’s centennial events can be found at www. SpringfieldHospital100.org . ###
