3 Vermont men face drug charges after Route 5 stop By Dave Canton, The Republican on February 15, 2014 at 6:23 AM, updated February 15, 2014 at 8:15 AM BERNARDSTON– One Vermont man is being held in the Franklin County Jail after he and two others were found carrying 300 bags of heroin following a stop by state police on Route 5 in Bernardston Wednesday night. State Police Sgt. Timothy Murphy said Trooper Michael McNally stopped a Vermont-registered vehicle at the intersection of Route 5, called Brattleboro Road, and Keets Brook Road at about 8 p.m. for a loud muffler and an obscured license plate. As he conducted the routine stop, McNally said he noted the three men in the car were being evasive as he asked questions. According to the Greenfield Recorder, the trooper separated the suspects and one admitted they were carrying drugs to Vermont. A search of the car turned up 100 bags of heroin in the trunk, and 100 bags carried in the pockets of two of the passengers. Michael Farnsworth, 25, was arrested on charges of possession of heroin with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate drug laws. He was carrying 100 bags of heroin on his person at the time of arrest. Charles Wolfenbarger, 24, too, was carrying 100 bags when patted down. He will be summoned to court to face similar charges. David Farnsworth, 58, the father of Michael and the driver of the car, will be summoned to answer to charges of knowingly being where heroin is kept, conspiracy to violate drug laws and motor vehicle violations charges. All of the suspects are from Springfield, Vt. Police said two of the three cooperated with the search and were issued summons to appear in court at a later date. The third suspect was uncooperative, and was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail pending an appearance in Greenfield District Court.
