William Plaster Jr., 31, pleaded innocent Tuesday to misdemeanor counts of domestic assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and simple assault on a law enforcement officer. He was released on conditions from White River Junction criminal court. Springfield Police Cpl. Michael Gilderdale said he and Lt. Mark Fountain responded to Wall Street shortly before 6 a.m. Friday for a report of “a female being thrown around by her boyfriend.” Gilderdale said neighbors described being awakened by screaming and “things crashing around” in Plaster’s apartment. Neighbor Jeffery Wyman said when he went to check on Plaster’s girlfriend, Plaster became enraged and shoved him so hard “it just about gave me whiplash.” After speaking to the girlfriend, Gilderdale said he tried to talk to Plaster. The officer said Plaster ran upstairs and started to slam the door, stopping when he saw Gilderdale pointing a Taser at him. After a brief struggle, police said, they handcuffed Plaster. Gilderdale said Plaster tried to kick him, but he partially avoided it. “I was in fear that my knee was going to be blown out from the forcible strike being delivered by a 325-pound man,” the officer wrote. Gilderdale said his shoulder was injured as the two officers shoved Plaster into the cruiser, where the suspect “began to forcibly smash his head off the rear of the cage partition, causing his head to split open and blood to spatter.” Plaster appeared in court Tuesday in heavy chains with a bandage on his forehead.
