Police say one shooting suspect is now in custody. A massive manhunt is underway for one or two additional men. Authorities believe at least one of those suspects is directly involved in the shooting; the other may be a witness. Police say the victims and the alleged shooters all knew each other and they don't believe the public is at risk at this point. Police did not release the names or conditions of the victims, but said no one is dead. Windsor County State's Attorney Michael Kainen said at least one of the victims is in critical condition. State and local police converged at 47 Summer Street in Springfield at about 3:30 p.m. Police cordoned off the area there with crime scene tape and were seen going in and out of a red apartment building there. Our news crews saw police running with guns drawn near downtown and were ordered back into their news van for safety reasons. This is not the first shooting in downtown Springfield. Springfield police have been fighting a rising drug trade and violence in town over the last couple of years. Wednesday, residents told us they are not surprised by this shooting. "This is a very high crime state. Springfield is drama-- drugs, gang members or fake gang members. And that's probably that what happened or something like that," said Carmella Grimard of Springfield. The manhunt led to lockdowns in the community at the Springfield Hospital and at least one school in town, the Park Street School. Vermont state police say they were called in to assist local police at 3:35 p.m. They say Springfield police asked them to take over case at about 5:30 p.m. Police say two of the victims were taken to Springfield Hospital and the third was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
