Blood Drive Memorializes Slain Veteran Sunday, June 22, 2014 (Published in print: Sunday, June 22, 2014) Springfield, Vt. — An American Red Cross blood drive Wednesday will honor the late Army Sgt. Kevin Sheehan. Sheehan, who grew up in Springfield, was killed in combat in Iraq on May 25, 2004, at age 36. The blood drive has been organized by his widow, Heather Sheehan, and his sister, Kathi, to honor his life and mark ten years since his death. “My husband was a lifetime blood donor, and this drive felt like an appropriate way to honor both his memory and his strong commitment of always giving back to his community,” Sheehan said in a recent news release. The blood drive will take place from 11:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 2 Chester Road. To make an appointment to donate, call 1-800-733-2767, or go to redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are also welcome. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. — Staff report
