By WPTZ Staff Police: 1 shot, 2 beaten with baseball bat in Springfield 1 person in custody, officials say UPDATED 8:41 PM EDT Jun 11, 2014 Police: Pair break into home, assault residents SPRINGFIELD, Vt. —Police said a shooting on Summer Street started with an altercation involving a baseball bat. State police investigators said Springfield police responded to 47 Summer St. around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday. Initial reports had indicated three people were shot, but investigators said late Wednesday only one person had a gunshot wound. That person was shot in the chest, they said. Two other people were injured by a baseball bat, they said. One person was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Two others were taken to Springfield Hospital. Other details about the case have not yet been released. Police said they have a suspect in custody, and are looking for two others. Police also said they wanted to stress that the public was in no danger. People are being encouraged to stay away from the area as authorities work to unravel what happened.
