New Directors Make Their Debut with "Crazy and a Half" Submitted by VT Journal on Tue, 09/02/2014 - 2:10pm SPRINGFIELD, VT - “Crazy and a Half” by D.R. Andersen, the new production from the Springfield Community Players explores the crazy lives of several psychiatrists, all badly in need of some therapy themselves. The collection of one acts starts out in the waiting room of a psychiatrist in New York City, makes its way through several therapy sessions, before bringing things to conclusion during a couples therapy session on a patio in Monterey, California. Final performances will run September 5 & 6 at the Players’ Studio on South Street. This fourth production from the Springfield Community Players in 2014 features the debut of two new directors for the community theater group. David Allen (of Weathersfield) brings over fifteen years of theater experience to his directing debut, including some acting in Manhattan. Allen has been with the Players since 1996 and says, "this show is special because of the way that it is five separate plays combined to make one great show. I just wanted to be a part of that". Scott Stearns (of Ludlow) directs two of the one acts after getting his first start with the Players production of "Sylvia" last summer. He spends his day job running The Book Nook bookshop in Ludlow and he has not directed since he was in college in the late 1980s. The idea of having an evening of one acts came about as a way to give some first time directors, like Allen and himself, a chance to try their hand at directing and see if they like it. Stearns says that "directing has been a lot of hard work and a lot fun, and it is great to see your vision of the play come to life on stage." David Allen and Robin McNamara lead the cast psychiatrists and patients including Tom Field, Sara Jane Murphy, Greg Villone, Alina Abraham, and Erica James, with some playing parts in several of the one acts. We hope you join us for one of the remaining performances on September 5 or 6. Curtain time for all performances is 7:30 p.m. Tickets at $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors may be reserved by calling 802-885-4098.
Way to go David Allen! You have talent!
