O’s go past Cosmos in 2nd half By POODY WALSH Correspondent | September 27,2014 SPRINGFIELD — Oxbow scored four second half touchdowns to break away from a 6-6- halftime tie on Friday night in a 30-12 win over Springfield. It was a game that was a bit hard to figure as both programs have been in a bit of disarray. Springfield, even though it owned a win over MSJ, is in a revival season. Oxbow was having a hard time getting its program straightened out and brought an 0-4 record into the game. On the first eight plays there were four flags and two timeouts. The game began to turn right at the start of the third quarter when Oxbow decided the best way to play was to stick the ball into the belly of husky Nick Grant. Following a short Springfield kick to start the second half Oxbow handed Grant the ball on three consecutive plays and he plowed his way for a total of 46 yards bringing the ball to the one. A sweep lost five, but Tristan Longmoore took it over from the seven on a quarterback draw. Before the quarter was over Olympian Nick Daigle pick up a fumble and the Olympians had the ball on the Springfield 49. Grant lugged it for three yards, but on the next play the fake went to Grant and Longmoore hit Demetres Perry in the corner of the end zone for a 48-yard scoring strike and it was 18-6. The try for the points failed as did all attempts after each of the seven touchdowns. Springfield which kept dealing with bad snaps and fumbles hung in there and cut the gap to 18-12 in the fourth quarter. A bad snap on an Oxbow punt set the Cosmos up on the Oxbow 22 and four plays later Springfield closed to within a touchdown as Justin Gomez took it in from the one. However, any hopes of the Cosmos completing the comeback were dashed when Grant got rumbling as the Olympians when 40 yards following a short kick with Grant taking it in from the 13. The final score of the day came with just 1:29 to go when a big hole opened for Longmoore and he took it in from 47 yards out against a tired and young Springfield defense.
