7th Annual Empty Bowl Dinner Submitted by VT Journal on Tue, 11/11/2014 - 12:24pm By SAMANTHA DECUOLLO The Vermont Journal/The Shopper SPRINGFIELD, VT -On Wednesday, November 19th, the Springfield school’s 7th Annual Empty Bowl Dinner will be hosted by the Springfield High School Arts Academy and River Valley Technical Center Culinary Program. Hundreds of students have been working assiduously this fall to produce over 200 handcrafted bowls in preparation for the event. The theme once again is Poverty and Hope and will include many art exhibits as well as a musical serenade. Following the dinner will be a concert featuring the SHS Chorus, Madrigal singers, and the Wind Ensemble. Susan Leader, a guest potter, helped students and community members create soup bowls on the potter’s wheels. Melissa Howe -a guest artist from Endless Creations Pottery in Chester, VT- has helped in the preparations for the event by assisting students in glazing the artistic bowls. The meal alone costs $7; children under 3 years old are free. The meal with a handcrafted ceramic bowl to keep is only $20.00. All proceeds will go directly to the Springfield Family Center’s Food Shelf. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Springfield High School Cafeteria located on 303 South Street. Please come enjoy a delicious dinner and help raise money for our town’s local food shelf in order to help feed hundreds of families.
The dinner was excellent and the students did a tremendous job. And the many shapes, sizes and colors of the bowls made it hard to pick one (so I bought 3!). Nice job everyone! I couldn't stay for the concert but heard from others today that was really enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteAgreed - it was delicious! (Perhaps next year there could be a water dispenser for those of us who do not drink soda or carbonated beverages). But no complaints - I had a great dinner, talked with friends and came home with a very nice bowl! Looking forward to next year.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you enjoyed yourself. So you know for next year, there's a very nice filtered water fill-station at the cafeteria installed for the kids which anybody can use. Free.
