Local Roundup: Springfield girls down Hartford By Staff Reports | Jan 09, 2015 Share on print Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on email More Sharing Services 0 The Springfield girls basketball team picked up a good road win Thursday when it travel to division foe Hartford. After a tight three quarters, the Cosmos pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 45-39 victory. “I think we had the game more in control than the final score indicates,” said Springfield coach Joe Brown. “We rushed some things toward the end and missed some free throws, but it was a good game for us.” Chelsea McAllister paced the Cosmos with 18 points. Cassidy Otis added six, while Jordan Phelps and Brooke Willey tallied five apiece. It was a good win for the Cosmos coming off a tough loss against a good Proctor team on Tuesday. Despite the Hurricanes’ 0-10 record, Brown said their record doesn’t indicate the skill level of the team. “They definitely aren’t an 0-10 team,” he said. “They are much better than their record indicates. This was a good division win for us on the road.” The Cosmos improved to 5-5 on the year and will travel to Brattleboro on Tuesday. The key against the Division I Colonels according to Brown is not having a slow start like the team has in the past few games. “We have definitely been plagued by slow starts lately,” he said. “That’s on me. I have to find a way to get them ready to go right out of the gate.” WRESTLING Bellows Falls-Hartford traveled to Mill River on Wednesday night for a tri-meet, which also included Springfield. BF-H dropped a 36-24 decision to Mill River, before earning a 30-12 win over Springfield. Austin Viens claimed a win by fall at 120 pounds for BF-H. Cameron Viens (145) and Kyle Record (182) each collected wins by fall for BF-H against Springfield. Green Mountain’s Charles Dolloph Jr. wrestled as an independent in his first offical varsity match and pinned his Springfield opponent in the second period. Bellows Falls-Hartford will compete Saturday at the John Starks Dual tournament in Weare, N.H.
