Tree disrupts traffic flow downtown

A tree in danger of falling resulted in Clinton Street being closed to traffic for hours this afternoon and evening. The Edgar May Rec Center was evacuated also. The tree (a weeping willow) is now temporarily secured.

Important information for tomorrow, Friday, March 13th that WILL effect travels thru the Clinton Street area: The tree causing this evening's detour has been secured with a huge chain....you guessed it...until tomorrow morning when they will officially take the tree down.

At 7 a.m. members of the PD [in conjunction with Highway?] will be setting up detour signs...appropriately routing traffic around the same area as tonight...minus of course...TT Units going down Wall Street. PLEASE plan accordingly!!! Take your time getting to where you need to go and allow yourself the extra travel time for the detour. Traffic may get backed up at times due to TT Units trying to corner Bridge & Summer Streets. We had one fender-bender this evening at the South & Clinton intersection. Thankfully no injuries. So again, please try to be patient, follow detour signs and allow extra travel time. Plan on the detour lasting until noon, and possibly later.

Thank You!!!

Weeping willows have a tendency to topple over in big wind storms due to shallow root systems.

  2. UPDATE! Clinton Street will NOT be shut down today, the tree will not come down until Monday. On Monday Clinton Street will only be shut down for a short time and down to one lane for a few hours.
