Springfield 2, Hartford 1
WHITE RIVER JCT. — Springfield scored twice in the fourth and edged the Hurricanes in Hartford’s opener, making a winner of Jade Twombly. Twombly tossed a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and a walk, besting Kaitlynn Woodward. Woodward was as impressive, spacing two hits with no earned runs while fanning 11 and walking one.
Brooke Willey and Corinna Nichols got the Cosmos hits and scored on errors.
Hartford picked up a run in the sixth as Kayla Lancor tripled and scored on a double by Woodward.
Courtney Murray had Hartford’s other hit, a double.
