Cosmos outscore Poultney

BASEBALL
Springfield 17, Poultney 13
POULTNEY — It was not what Alexander Cartwright or Abner Doubleday or whomever invented this game had in mind.
“There were approximately 20 errors between the two teams,” Poultney coach Dan Williams said.
The Blue Devils had a 12-11 lead but Springfield scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh to get the win.
Ben Tubbs and Zeb Reardon each had home runs for the Cosmos. Reardon’s was a three-run shot in the seventh.
Kyle White was the winning pitcher.
Cody Adams took the loss in relief of Joe Brown.
Brown had three hits for the Devils and reached base five times. Connor Hill and Alex Field each added two hits.
The Cosmos pad their record to 9-5.
The Devils are also 9-5 and back-to-back losses to Fair Haven and the Cosmos have given some urgency to Poultney’s final week.
“We need to win out to secure at least one home playoff game,” Williams said.
That challenge comes in the form of two road contests. The Devils are at Woodstock on Tuesday and West Rutland on Friday.
