Springfield enters D-2 playoffs as No. 3 seed BF, Windsor, GM look to contend in D-3 By Jason Orfao | Jun 02, 2015 Share on print Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on email More Sharing Services 0 Photo by: File Springfield senior standout Chelsea McAllister takes a swing early in the season during a win over Twin Valley. The Cosmos take on 14th-seeded Lamoille Tuesday at Bill Robinson Field at 4 p.m. in the first round of the VPA Division 2 playoffs. The VPA softball pairings were announced Monday and three local teams will immediately jump into action Tuesday. Springfield, Bellows Falls and Windsor all have hopes for a deep postseason run, while a young Green Mountain squad would like to turn some heads with a surge after reaching the championship game a year ago. Following are preview capsules for the first-round matchups. DIVISION 2 No. 14 Lamoille (4-12) at No. 3 Springfield (11-5) Tuesday, 4 p.m. The Cosmos had some question marks entering the season, but junior Jade Twombly has been a stud in the circle and a strong senior class has helped Springfield emerge as a championship threat in Division 2. The Cosmos strung together six wins to begin the season and three of their five losses came against Division 1 foes, including two to powerhouse Mt. Anthony. If Springfield can generate enough timely hitting, a run to the championship is attainable. Lamoille has struggled to keep opponents off the board, even in victory, as it closed the season with a 26-21 win over Northfield. Lamoille scored at least 18 runs in each of its four wins, but has surrendered at least 13 runs in all but two games this season. Tuesday’s winner advances to play the survivor of No. 6 Mt. Abraham and No. 11 Lake Region on Friday at 4 p.m.
