2016-01-27 / Front Page Selectboard signs off on town meeting warning By Allan Stein allans@eagletimes.com SPRINGFIELD — Key money items on the approved March annual town and school district meeting warning include a proposed $11 million budget for the town and nearly $28 million for the school district for the 2017 fiscal year. On Monday, all five selectboard members voted to approve the warning containing 28 articles, many of which will require a vote by secret ballot, also known as Australian ballot. The annual meeting will take place on March 2 and 3. Article 5 asks voters whether the town should set aside $10,766,061 for the town budget to pay for salaries and town expenses, including road maintenance. The total proposed operating and capital budget for the town for the 2017 fiscal year is $11,019,221. Article 7 asks voters whether to establish an Unsafe Building Reserve Fund to receive money to be used to fund the enforcement of town unsafe building ordinances, while Article 8 seeks $100,000 to place into the fund. Article 9 asks the town to vote to authorize the selectboard to enter into a long-term contract of up to 25 years to acquire electrical energy from one or more solar electricity generating projects in the town. Article 15 asks the voters to approve a total budget of $27,910,190 to support the Springfield School District in the 2017 fiscal year, which begins July 1. Article 18 asks the town to spend $63,500 to support the home health and hospice care provided by the Visting Nurse and Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire. Article 27 asks the voters to appropriate $55,000 to the Springfield Family Center to assist with the cost of providing a free meal daily, a free food shelf, and other services related to hunger and homelessness.
I see that Mr McNaughton's math is wrong again. He stated during budget meetings that there would be a gain of 100,000.00 in the budget because he wouldn't be asking for it as it was approved last budget year. I see he lied again. Oh well, its not his money.
ReplyDeleteThe article is wrong it is quoting last year's warrant, this year's warrant is posted on the Town's website. There is no requested appropriation for delapidated buildings this year. There is a special appropriation for paving, but that appropriation is the difference between what the Road Maintenance Plan called for this year and what was included in the budget. What I said during the budget process was that we weren't going to be appropriating the $100,000.00 that we did last year to fund the delapidated building fund. The paving appropriation that is being put forward this year originated with the Administration and in my mind is a referendum regarding whether the community wants to support the RMS. When I said that I would support the paving article, I clearly stated that I was supporting it as a separate article because I considered it a referendum on the RMS. I pay taxes like everybody else.
DeleteNot sure I follow your comment. I did not ask for the $100,000.00 for delapidated building demolition this year. That was a one time appropriation to set up a reserve account for that purpose.
ReplyDeleteThere is an error in the article, it is quoting last year's warrant articles. There is no article appropriating money for the delapidated building fund this year.
