  2. Mr. McLaughlin according to the information I have been told, the teachers are not requested to work with these instructional coaches, they can volunteer to do so, but it is not required. I spoke to a few teachers in the district; their question was “When were we going to be told this?” Let’s see, five Instructional coaches at a cost of over ¼ million dollars that have no daily contact with the students? Make sense to me! How many teachers work with these instructional coaches? Is there a state license or certification for these positions? The budget committee was right in suggesting a cut. What are you hiding? Yes Mr. McLaughlin, I pay Federal Taxes too, so I am paying for the three instructional coaches under the Title 1 money as you indicated. Why did Windsor eliminate these instructional coach positions and yet we increase the positions. Are our teachers that bad? If so, we should look at the hiring process better. We are not a rich town Mr. McLaughlin so stop spending our tax money on the newest educational trends and get back to basics.
The other question is why is the Springfield School District eliminating the French program? We live less than 100 miles from a country that speaks French. Many French Canadians visit our state and speak French. So the district is down to two languages now, German and Spanish. Haven’t heard either one of these languages being spoken around here recently, while I have heard a huge amount of French.
So once again I will be voting “No” on the school budget! It is also a time for a change on the School Board, we need more than one or two members who lookout for us taxpayers and are not “yes” people for the superintendent.

    1. So you're running, right? You can get your petition at the town office. It's due on the 25th. Get on it.

    2. No I am not, but two people who are (PAM YOUNG and MIKE GRIFFIN) will watch out for us taxpayers, unlike Jeanice Garfield who has never disagreed with the superintendent on anything and gives evil gazes to board members who do.

    3. I agree, Jeanice is Zachs lap dog for sure!

    4. What are the positions being taken by Pam Young and Mike Griffin?

    5. Yeah now that Frank is gone the board is Zach's lap dog. Same sayings for every Superintendent that has been through here for the last 20 years. Always some grand conspiracy in the schools or town somewhere. We should worry more about the Aliens. Those Greys are taking over the world and you are walking right into it.

    6. I don't think I have seen any of those who are so critical of the Board, running for office...Why not? Don't you want to REALLY know what school is all about nowadays?

  3. My math shows 20,000 per pupil. Not 16,000

  4. there is a dual enrollment person that works for the district, but she is never there, there is some more money to save,CCV has a person working for them that does the same thing, why is this position needed in the district

  5. Formula to afford it = make those people who sit on their butts work to contribute. 20 hours ought to be ok to start since their daycare is subsidized anyway. :-)

$20,000 per pupil? The arguably best school in America is the University of Chicago's Laboratory School, where kids are given incredible support to explore and grow intellectually. The third-grader of a friend of mine came home and announced, "I'm going to write about the Chinese language."

Graduates of the Laboratory School have entree to almost any college or university in America and wind up in prestigious positions in all fields. Overachieving parents would almost kill to get their kids in.

Cost per student? $25,000, with scholarships available. We're not that far away from that price; why not go for the gold?

The reason I mention this is that Mark Zuckerberg dumped $100,000,000 of his billions in an attempt at "top-down" reform in Newark, N.J. There's no reason why we couldn't convince some savvier billionaire to drop a few pennies into a "bottom-up" reform, turn our system into the sort that parents would kill for in order to get their child enrolled, draw families to Springfield and help us back onto the road. Just saying...
