The news cheered Pam Parsons, executive director of the Richford Health Center, which received $724,780 for an expansion. The Richford center will use the money to add two dental operatories and office space to the fourth floor of its building. “There is so much dental need,” Parsons said. “Every chair you put into your dental office becomes full.” Parsons said the health center, which is also known as the Northern Tier Center for Health or NOTCH, will build classroom space, a teaching kitchen and a secure records storage area. Health centers in Springfield, Bradford, Morrisville, Rutland and Arlington also received grants between $750,000 and $1 million each. “This kind of funding for all of us just gives primary care more stability,” Parsons said. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has been an advocate for community health centers, said the awards would help expand health care access in Vermont. “I am pleased to see Vermont receive these much-needed awards, which will allow our community health centers to serve even more Vermonters who today lack adequate access to affordable health care,” said Sanders, D-Vt., in a statement.
