Fall Mountain and Springfield met at Fall Mountain Tuesday evening and focused on building off of what has been learned to this point. Both teams echoed shape and finding easy passes. That was the key to FM jumping in front midway through the first half and carrying oSpringfield goalie Andrew Towne hits the turf after beating Fall Mountain’s Luke Plumley to the ball during Tuesday’s game. — CHRIS DOHERTY Springfield goalie Andrew Towne hits the turf after beating Fall Mountain’s Luke Plumley to the ball during Tuesday’s game. — CHRIS DOHERTY n to a 2-0 win. Possession was even for most of the first half, but Springfield was unable to get many shots on target. FM had more dangerous looks early on, but wasn’t able to find the back of the net until a corner kick midway through. After a couple of missed opportunities from corner kicks, Luke Plumley delivered a perfect ball to the back post where Noah Lantz was wide open. Lantz just calmly placed it into the empty side of the goal to give FM a 1-0 lead. The lead stayed that way until early in the second half. Andrew Towne was in net for Springfield and he made two or three big saves early in the second half to keep it 1-0, but a loose ball in the box led to Lantz’s second goal of the game. FM rotated in three goalies throughout the night. Billy Wilder got the start. Before he could face any shots, incoming eighth grader John Groton arrived and took his place. He stopped the only shot on target he faced. In the second half, Tucker Wright went between the pipes and kept the clean sheet with three saves. On the other end, Towne finished the game with six saves. He was the busier of the goalies, especially in the second half when FM rarely surrendered possession. After suffering a tough 1-0 loss over the weekend, FM came out with purpose and improved on its execution. Springfield came out with the mentality to score goals, but the FM defense kept them on the perimeter and allowed very few clean looks at goal. Springfield gets back on the pitch Thursday when they travel to Touchline 5 at Huntley Meadows at 6 p.m. FM returns to action tonight at 6 p.m. at Windsor.
