MacLeay makes top 20 at NEWGA championship
Paige MacLeay of Claremont Country Club landed a top-20 showing at the 60th annual New England Women’s Golf Association championship Thursday. Laurie Carver of Crown Point Country Club in Springfield tied for 60th.

2016-06-30 / Sports Local golfer scores hole-in-one at NEWGA championship WATERBURY, Vt. — Laurie Carver of Crown Point Country Club in Springfield claimed a hole-in-one at the 60th annual New England Women’s Golf Association championship Tuesday. Carver's ace came on the 133-yard fourth hole during the opening day of play at the Country Club of Vermont. She finished the round with an 89. Carver added a 93 on Wednesday and is tied for 52rd place. Paige MacLeay of Claremont Country Club is tied for 16th after two rounds of play. After carding an 85 on Tuesday, she came back with a 5-over-par 77 on Wednesday. Hannah Ghelfi of Pocasset Golf Club in Massachusetts fired a 1-under 70 and day two to take the lead with a 1-under 143. Katie Barrand of Myopia Hunt Club in Massachusetts fired a 2-under 70 to take the lead after day one, but a 75 on day two dropped her to third at 145. Susan Cavanagh of Agawam Hunt in Rhode Island stands second after two rounds with a 144. The final round will be held today.
