Wendy Morris, 26, of Springfield, pleaded guilty this month to obstruction of justice and admitted she helped Smith to hide in a remote camper while a police manhunt swept across the region after the April 18, 2015, drive-by shooting. Smith faces a murder charge in the death of Wesley Wing, who was gunned down on the sidewalk near Jake’s South Street Market. Police said the killing was a result of Wing complaining about drug dealing in the neighborhood. Smith will be held at the Newport prison until his trial and Morris will serve her time in the women’s section of the South Burlington prison. Therefore, the defense argued, a no-contact order is unnecessary. But Judge Theresa DiMauro agreed with the state that the step is required because Morris is likely to testify at Smith’s murder trial.
