Stingrays swim well, but fall to Marauders
BENNINGTON — The Stingrays comp feted in their second meet of the summer season on July 5 back in Bennington, Vermont. This was a dual meet against the Marauders and although the Stingrays lost the head to head match up, they competed well. The Stingrays scored 888 points with twelve swimmers, while Bennington posted a score of 1,758 points, with 35 swimmers.
Forrester Avard and Noah Jones scored a total of 153 points with Noah earning four, first place finishes. Forrester scored two, first place finishes, a second, and a third in the boys 11 and 12-year-old age group. New swimmer, Lacey Perry added a new event to her repertoire, the 50-yard freestyle and immediately placed sixth, scoring 48 points on the evening.
Grace Johnson took first place in the 500-yard freestyle event and also competed with Sam Mirra, Alyssa Ferris, and Lily Jones on the girls 19 and under relay team. The girls placed first in the medley relay with a time of 2:14.84 and the freestyle relay with a time of 2:00.78. It will be awesome to watch the girls as the season goes on. The Stingrays also had another relay team this week made up of Hayley Racicot (11), Ari Cioffi (11), Janie Thompson (11), and Aly Lantz (9). They finished 3rd in the medley relay and fourth in the freestyle.
Alyssa Ferris also had a strong individual showing earning three first place finishes and one second place finish in the girls 13 and 14-year-old age group. Other strong individual performances were turned in by Janie Thompson and Ari Cioffi, who won all four individual events they entered, both are from Springfield.
Rowan Caulkins another new Stingray showed enormous improvement from last week’s meet in the 25-yard back stroke, dropping an amazing 28.87 seconds off of her previous time. Caulkins also placed 6th in the 25-yard freestyle earning 16 points.
The Stingrays July 9 meet versus Killington was canceled due to weather, but they will be back in the pool on July 12 vs. Rockingham and Woodstock.
