SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Area Parent Child Center is pleased to announce a new program, “Cooking Matters.” The six-week hands-on cooking and nutrition course will be offered free of charge at the Springfield Area Parent Child Center with classes beginning Nov. 1. Classes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and they do have a few spaces left. Call SAPCC to enroll at (802) 886-5242. The classes will run for six weeks and will include a nutrition component, hands-on cooking sessions in the SAPCC kitchen along with “take home” ingredients to practice what you’ve learned in class to duplicate the recipe at home. This is a community partnership led by Executive Chef Michael Ehlenfeldt of The Inn at Weathersfield and Lara Peck and Sooyoung Uhm, both registered dieticians with Springfield Medical Systems. Black River Produce is also on board to donate fresh ingredients for the cooking curriculum supplies. Chef Michael was one of the first instructors to bring this program to the Boston area. "Cooking Matters" serves families across the country through hands-on learning and online educational tools. Participants will learn to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices and cook delicious, affordable meals.
