2017-01-17 / Local Springfield man charged with assault, kidnapping By TORY JONES toryb@eagletimes.com SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated domestic assault following an incident at his River Street home on Thursday evening. Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 to a report of an assault. At about midnight, the officers went to 69 River St. to further investigate the report, all according to SPD. An investigation found that Andrew Hayes, 20, of Springfield had allegedly assaulted and kept a victim from leaving his residence, according to police. SPD Officer Logan Defelice was the investigating officer. Police officers arrested Hayes on a charge of first degree aggravated domestic assault, and a charge of kidnapping. Hayes was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility (SSCF) in lieu of $5,000 bail on the alleged offenses, all according to a press release from SPD. Hayes was arraigned on Friday, Jan. 13 at Windsor County District Court - Criminal Division, according to Springfield Police Chief Doug Johnston. The plea and further actions were not available as of Monday, Jan. 16 due to the court being closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. A status conference in the case of the State vs. Andrew Hayes has been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Windsor County District Court - Criminal Division. Deputy State’s Attorney Glenn Barnes is representing the state of Vermont in the case.
