For most high school athletes this is a dream — a goal, a hope — a shot at the stars. For Springfield Cosmos field hockey this dream came true as they won the final game of the season and earned the much-deserved title of Vermont Division 2 state champions.
The Springfield Booster Club has a dream too — that is to recognize and award these athletes with a ceremony and sense of community pride they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. The booster club works tirelessly at raising funds to reinvest into athletics by supporting the teams, the community and of course the athletes.
Join them on Monday, Feb. 6 at Riverside Middle School in Dressel Gym as we honor these athletes with a ceremony and presentation of their state championship jackets. The jackets will be presented at halftime during the boys home game against Windsor. This night was chosen as three girls from Windsor joined the Springfield Cosmos this year on the field and the booster club wants to ensure that they and their friends and families will be part of this momentous occasion.
Members of the youth and middle school field hockey teams will be present along with the 1986 state championship team and coach, Joy Benson. The booster club also invites Cosmos alumni to participate in this joyous occasion. It may be a cliché but unmeasurable blood, sweat and tears brought these girls to this monumental title — the club looks forward to honoring them with you, the community.
Come early to cheer on the JV Cosmos starting at 5:30 p.m. and ensure you get a great seat to this awesome event.
The booster club will be on hand selling apparel and programs, as well as hot dogs, popcorn and other treats in the cafeteria.
Game admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students.
