Bowling individual state championships Posted: Feb 25, 2017 7:31 PM EST Updated: Feb 25, 2017 9:13 PM EST By Scott FleishmanCONNECT SHELBURNE, Vt. - The first ever varsity bowling individual state championship were held Saturday at Champlain Lanes in Shelburne. Springfield's Matt Power had the high score of the day with a 268. Brattleboro's Jeremy Lackey finished in fourth place. He put up a 201 in the Elite 8 to knock Power out of the tournament. Lackey would fall in the final four to Randolph's Logan Lumbra, 193-137. Lumbra's best score on the day was a 220. South Burlington's Maddy Denton is the state runner-up. She won her Elite 8 match-up, 260-256. Picking up a strike in the final frame for the win. Denton put up a 223 in the semifinals to advance to the final match against the state champ, Cody Seaver of Fair Haven. His best score of the day was a 229 in the Elite 8 round. The high school bowling team state championships are next Saturday in Barre. Slaters’ Seaver wins state bowling championship Rutland Herald | February 25, 2017 RUTLAND HERALD SHELBURNE – Fair Haven High School’s Cody Seaver won the first Vermont state individual high school bowling championship on Saturday, topping South Burlington’s Maddy Denton 203-164 in the finals at Champlain Lanes. Individuals took part in qualifying play and were seeded into head-to-head competition. In quarterfinals play, Seaver beat Randolph’s Kolby Carpenter, 229-159; Brattleboro’s Jeremy Lackey beat Springfield’s Matt Power, 210-185; Denton beat Windsor’s Brandyn LeBarron 260-256; and Randolph’s Logan Lumbra beat Fair Haven’s Jordan Phillips, 191-163. In the semifinals, Seaver beat Lumbra and Denton beat Lackey. The state team championship will be held next Saturday in Barre at Twin City Lanes beginning at 10 a.m.
