New Hampshire At Spare Time in Manchester, the Cardinals' Coby Hussey and Ian Fitzpatrick made it to the Round of 16. Hussey defeated Casey Koulias of Keene to advance to the quarterfinals. Fitzpatrick lost to Josh Fitzgibbons of Bishop Guertin. Hussey was eliminated by Ryan Gentes of Goffstown in the quarterfinals. Gentes would beat BG's Josh Phillips 213-169 in the first round of the step ladder finals, then lose to Rachel Bamford of Spaulding 202-194. Bamford, the No. 6 seed would upend top seed and younger brother Xavier in the championship game, 257-164. Vermont Springfield's Matt Power drew the top seed in qualifying at Champlain Lanes in Shelburne, but couldn't maintain the strong start in head-to-head games. The Cosmos senior rolled 202-227-268 for a 232.3 average, well ahead of the 222.7 average of No. 2 seed Joseph Warner of Randolph. The only other local bowler to advance out of qualifying was Windsor senior Brandyn LeBarron, who scored 196-180-193 for a 897.7 average and the No. 13 seed. In the Sweet 16, Power downed South Burlington's Joshua Fortin while LeBarron knocked off Fair Haven's Jordan Philips. Both bowlers would bow out in the Elite 8. Power fell to Brattleboro's Jeremy Lackey 201-185 and LeBarron lost to South Burlington's Maddy Denton 260-256 in the highest-scoring game of the day. In the step ladder finals, Randolph's Logan Lumbra beat Lackey 193-137, then lost to Denton 222-213. That pitted Denton against Fair Haven's Cody Seaver in the championship game and Seaver prevailed 203-164. Springfield sophomore Haley St. Louis just missed qualifying for the Sweet 16. She rolled 176-198-159 for a 177.7 average. That was good for 18th with a 177.7. South Burlington's Patrick O'Hara and Fortin tied for 16th at 179 with Fortin winning a roll-off. Springfield's Alex Richardson was 26th in qualifying with 170-154-157 for a 160.3 average and Windsor's Troy McCabe had 129-156-172 for a 152.3 average and 31st place. The Vermont team championships will be held Saturday at noon at Twin City Lanes in Barre.
