2017-03-02 / Sports Warner, Verespy 3rd at state snowboard meet KILLINGTON, Vt. — Springfield senior Alex Warner and Green Mountain senior Molly Verespy garnered third-place honors in the Halfpipe competition at the Vermont Snowboarding Championships Wednesday. Verespy scored 204 points in her first run and 203 in the second. Her cumulative score of 407 was just four points behind runner-up Katy Buckley of Black River. Allie Nowicki of Burr & Burton rode an impressive first run score of 241 to the individual title, finishing with a 448 total. Springfield's Bella Bortlein was 15th with 282 points. Warner matched last year's third-place showing. He scored 235 and 230 to finish with 465 points in the boys event. Woodstock's Evan Bloch won the title with 504 points and River Willman was second with 482. The Cosmos' Owen Kelley was 12th with 367 points. Boarders return to Killington today for the remainder of the state competition. The Slopestyle begins at 10 a.m. and the Giant Slalom starts at 1 p.m. Warner was seventh in Slope and eighth in GS in 2016.
