Springfield Community Players kicks off season with 'The Savannah Sipping Society'
SPRINGFIELD — A new comedy, "The Savannah Sipping Society," will open the 2017 season for the Springfield Community Players. This hilarious yet touching play by the team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, is set for performances on June 2, 3, 9 and 10.
The play will be performed at the Players' Studio at 165 South St., in Springfield. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets, priced at $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors, can be reserved by calling (802) 885-4098.
The play is the story of four strong Southern women, each facing a critical point in her life, who are drawn together by fate — and an impromptu happy hour — and decide to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they have lost through the years. Over the course of six months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures and the occasional liquid refreshment, these middle-aged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives.
The cast includes Sara Vitale of Athens as Randa Covington, a perfectionist facing unexpected unemployment. Trilby Whitcomb of Bellows Falls plays Dot Haigler, who is recently widowed and living in a new city. Kay Burge of Springfield takes on the role of Marlafaye Mosley, an earthy and boisterous good ol’ Texas gal, who has come to town to start a new career after divorcing her tom-cattin’ husband. Robin McNamara of Springfield, plays Jinx Jenkins, a makeup artist who wants to start a sideline as a life coach, with her three new friends as her first clients. She also faces a challenge in taking care of her older sister who is sinking into dementia.
