Springfield Humane Society Plant & Bake Sale May 2, 2017 Humane Society plant sale. Provided. SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The annual Springfield Humane Society plant and bake sale will take place on Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in front of Peebles at the Springfield Shopping Plaza. This event offers a wide variety of house and garden plants as well as delicious treats from local kitchens. The community’s help is requested in the form of donations of baked items, houseplants, and outdoor plants. We are also on the lookout for a knowledgeable plant person who could help customers with advice on planting and plant care – our plant “experts” are out of commission this year. Hosta, astilbe, iris, phlox, daylilies, and – of course – catnip, are just a few of the perennials offered at past sales. Last year we had domestic raspberry plants, lilacs, and a few “mystery” plants. This year we will have a variety of tomatoes and hopefully, other vegetables. If you have a new home, or if you’ve been thinking about adding some new flowers to an existing garden, come to this sale to see what you can buy at very reasonable prices. Please keep us in mind if you are thinning flower gardens. For those donating plants, please include the name of the plant, indicate whether it is an indoor or outdoor variety, and growing details; for instance, “likes full sun and a lot of water.” Plants and baked goods can be dropped off the morning of the sale starting at 8 a.m. or call 802-886-4475 for pick-up. Beautify your home, satisfy your sweet tooth, and support the Springfield Humane Society’s work for animals that need forever homes. The contact person for this fundraiser is Jill Markert. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please call her at 802-886-4475.
