Thomas Daniels, 44, pleaded innocent to three felony counts of selling heroin before he was released from the courthouse in downtown White River Junction this past week on pre-trial conditions. Detective Ryan Wood of the Vermont Drug Task Force wrote in paperwork filed with the court that Daniels had allegedly been using the name “Thomas Davis” to sell heroin from his apartment in a building at the intersection Park and High Streets. An informant cooperating with the Task Force arranged a deal over the phone with “Davis” and then went to Daniels’ apartment where a woman identified in the affidavit as Jessie Marro allegedly took the informant’s money from Daniels, left the residence for a short period of time, and returned with 10 bags of heroin, Detective Wood wrote. The affidavit said that Marro allegedly kept one of the bags in exchange for “middling the deal” and turned the other nine bags of heroin, which were stamped with the street-brand name “The Godfather,” over to the informant. Wood wrote that the other two alleged drug deals in late November and early December involved the same pattern of events with the informant calling to buy a “bunny,” slang for a bundle of 10 bags, and Daniels allegedly leaving and retrieving the heroin on those two occasions. By mid-December, before the Task Force had completed their cycle of investigations late last year, Daniels was already before a judge where he was convicted of misdemeanor heroin possession stemming from a March 2016 encounter with Springfield police and he was sentenced to 100 days in jail. In 2015, Daniels was fined $500 for possession of a narcotic in Vermont. In New Hampshire, Daniels received a deferred sentence in 2008 after he was convicted of simple assault, criminal trespassing and violation of a protective order. Prior to that, in 2002, Daniels had been sentenced to a month in jail by a New Hampshire court for possession of marijuana. Daniels currently faces a maximum potential penalty of up to 30 years in prison if he were to be convicted of all three felony charges now pending against him.
